I wanted to share some ways to “detox” your life. While this concept may seem complex, here are some simple ways to eliminate toxicity in your life, both emotionally and physically.
Substitute chemical products for natural ones
Chemical cleaning products can cause havoc in your body that are not limited to respiratory, gastrointestinal and dermatological issues. Switch to more natural cleaning products like distilled vinegar, baking soda and essential oils. Consider your hygienic products as well. It can be as easy as switching to an all-natural toothpaste which can be easily found at your grocery store, Target, Trader Joe’s, etc.. I like Tom’s of Maine or Jason. Even consider your laundry detergent. Did you know that the chemicals in laundry detergent can disrupt the functioning of your endocrine system?! Yikes :/ Instead of candles and chemical laden air fresheners, try essential oils and diffusers. Also, we use a HEPA air purifier in the bedroom and turn it on while we sleep. Once we started using this at night, Adam’s snoring significantly reduced. Praise the Lord! 😉
Eliminate toxic people
Like toxic chemicals, toxic people can poison your mind, body and soul. They can cause emotional, mental and even physical distress. They bring unneeded drama to your life. Toxic and manipulative people latch on to those that are kind and gentle. They feel entitled to your constant forgiveness and blame. They are not necessarily “bad” people; they just may not be right for you. Eliminating toxic people is something I recently dealt with. It is one of the hardest things to part with. It hurts to the core. I personally felt guilt in doing this and often questioned myself if this was the “right” thing to do or what I wanted. But when something or someone in your life feels wrong, you must stay true to yourself and say just say “NO!” NO, I won’t let you degrade and demean who I am. NO, I won’t let you project your own defects onto me. Something I realized is that letting toxic people go is not an act of cruelty and hate, it is an act of self-care and self-love. The battle they are fighting is not with you, it is with themselves. You cannot change the people around you, but you can change the people you choose to be around. Be brave. Be strong. Remove. And detoxify.
Sweat it out
Whether you work out or use a sauna, sweating is an excellent way to rid your body of toxins. Get moving!
Yes, CHUG! Why is drinking lots of water crucial? To name a few reasons: Flush out bacteria and waste, perform better, lose weight, perk up your mood, your skin will improve and glow and many, many more!
If drinking enough H2O is difficult for you, try this: carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go, eat fruits and vegetables with a high water content, tally the amount of bottles you drink each day. You can even set an alarm on your phone. Whatever works for you!!!
I am so not a beach person. I hate baking and roasting in the sun like a rotisserie chicken. It wasn’t until I moved closer to the beach where I realized how much I actually love it. Not the laying out and sunning, but being outside in nature. Breathing the fresh, salty air. Spending time and walking outside amongst nature is not only beneficial for your activity level and waistline, it is beneficial for your mental psyche. I can’t tell you how therapeutic it feels to walk in the sunshine, inhale the fresh air and exhale any stressors that life may bring. Walk at a park, in the mountains, around your neighborhood. Anywhere. Take your workouts outside.
UNprocess your diet! NOW!
Read the labels before you buy your food products. Avoid preservatives, food coloring, artificial and natural flavors- what are these “natural flavors” anyway? The answer: POISON. Your body cannot identify what these chemical, foreign ingredients are. If your body does not flush them out, they are stored in your body as fat. Basically, if you can’t pronounce the ingredients, chances are you should not be eating it. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store and purchase fresher ingredients.
