The importance of sleep:
-improves your immune system
-improves concentration and mood
-beneficial for learning and memory
-sleep deprivation can cause weight gain
-muscle is rebuilt during sleep
The list goes on….
For as long as I can remember, I have had trouble falling, and even sometimes staying, asleep.
When I was in college I took my nightly Simply Sleep over-the-counter to get some shut eye. A few months later I developed an eye twitch during my waking hours.
I then turned to more natural remedies for sleep, so I began taking melatonin to fall asleep.
While melatonin worked for me for years, I recently researched more in depth the side effects of taking this supplement.
The reason why I stopped taking melatonin was because I worry about the hormonal effects this supplement has, especially since I suffer from an under-active thyroid. Also, I often woke up groggy and super tired, even with a full night’s sleep.
Because it is still difficult for me to fall asleep naturally (without the use of anything), I researched and tried out more natural, less harmful alternatives.
Every night before bed I use the following:
Magnesium spray & Bach Rescue Sleep spray
For the magnesium spray:
3-4 sprays on the bottom of each foot (rub it in and let it dry for a minute and then put on cozy socks); 3 sprays on the back of my neck; 3 sprays under each armpit
For the Bach Rescue Sleep spray:
2-3 sprays on the top of my tongue
I also turn on my diffuser and sleep with it on all night. I either diffuse Zennery’s breathe or Tranquil essential oil blend, about 6 drops.
*I use Defender during the day.
I also wear this Philip Stein sleep watch when I am really having trouble falling or staying asleep.
In a nutshell, the watch works with the natural frequencies in the environment to bring your brain and body to a more restful state.

Once in a while I will sip on some Yogi tea an hour before bed. I love the Honey Lavender Stress Relief, Soothing Caramel Bedtime and regular Bedtime tea.
Lastly, I always aim to go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday!!!
What do you do to get a good night’s sleep?
